Want To Know About Radiation Therapy? Here’s How

Trinity College Dublin's free online course aims to educate people about the benefits of radiation therapy as a cancer treatment.

Targeting Cancer is delighted to once again support a vital free online course providing more information on radiation therapy and how it can help treat cancer.

An Introduction to Radiation Oncology – From Diagnosis to Survivorship‘ highlights the benefits of radiation therapy, how it can safely and effectively treat cancer and also dispels some myths around the treatment.

Run by Trinity College Dublin, the two-week course features stories from cancer patients who have experienced radiation therapy treatment, professionals involved in their care and the typical treatment pathway.

The course, which is aimed at cancer patients, professionals and anyone interested in discovering more about radiation therapy, features input from Targeting Cancer Clinical Lead A/Prof Sandra Turner and campaign ambassador Julie McCrossin.

“This is a fantastic course which provides vital information on radiation therapy,” A/Prof Turner said.

“Many people don’t know that radiation therapy is a safe and cost-effective treatment for many cancers. It is an under-utilized form of treatment, but for many patients it may be their most effective and suitable treatment.

“This course offers a really simple way for cancer patients, their families and friends and professionals the chance to discover more about radiation therapy, how it works and ultimately how it can help successfully treat cancer. ”

This is the second time the course, which is accessible via the Future Learn website and only requires about four weeks of study, has been run. It will be available online from Monday, January 21.
