‘Why We Wear Masks For Head and Neck Cancer Radiation Therapy Treatment’

30 May 2018

Targeting Cancer ambassador Julie McCrossin has featured in a terrific informative video explaining why head and neck cancer patients must wear protective masks during treatment.

The video, which also features radiation oncologist Dr Lucinda Morris, was made for the ‘150 Years Marie Curie’ competition as part of the recent ESTRO 37 conference.

Julie, who was successfully treated for her head and neck cancer with radiation therapy, and Dr Morris explain why protective masks are needed and how they are assist in the overall treatment process.

The competition, which had the tagline ‘Radiation Therapy Cures Cancer’, aimed to promote the importance of radiation therapy in modern day healthcare and treatment.

“We were delighted to take part in this terrific competition and help promote the importance of radiation therapy in healthcare,” Targeting Cancer Clinical Lead A/Prof Sandra Turner said.

“Julie’s such a wonderful ambassador for the campaign – her enthusiasm and love for life is amazing! We’re so happy she’s a part of our campaign.

“It’s so inspirational and insightful as well to hear her talk about her experiences and show she coped with cancer treatment.

“Hopefully the videos will help people learn more about head and neck cancer and also why radiation therapy more generally is an important treatment option to consider.”

Many thanks to Genesis Care for their production assistance and everyone who participated in the videos.
